Creative Engineering was the fourth and final project of my first semester at STEM. It was a very interesting project that required us to use our minds more than our hands. We had to come up with a world problem and come up with a way to solve it using our engineering skills. My group consisted of Ethan, Alyssa, and Frannie. We decided that our world problem would be deforestation.
For our project, we decided to research deforestation and come up with a way to solve it. We decided on reforestation. The first ting we had to do was find out what deforestation was and how it was bad. We found out that if we continue the way we are going, the world will be in some serious trouble soon. We decided that we would make a machine that will make little holes in the ground and would plant saplings in the back. We made blue prints for the diagram of our machine and presented them to class.
Refection:
This project helped me learn about things that I wouldn't normally know, being a kid with a good life in Marin County. I learned about people who have trouble after a natural disaster from lack of water, people who have trouble getting around because of injuries or disabilities, and buses that cannot go because of gas prices. But the most I learned about was how deforestation affects animals and humans. It can ruin ecosystems just because people want land to make buildings and stuff like that. And us, as humans, should do our very best to stop it.
I thought we did a good job as a group working on this project. We made arrangements with ease and we agreed what should be on the presentation almost too easily. We didn't do the best on content though. I think we should have come up with a plausible idea then what we did.
