AlU PCR LAB
Purpose
The purpose of this project was to gain an understanding of the Polymerase Chain Reaction, or PCR for short. PCR is a way to duplicate one DNA strands into multiple. With the results, we would be able to see whether or not we had the frequency of Alu in our 16 chromosomes.
Hypothesis
I predict, that in my DNA, I will have a heterozygous alu frequency.
Materials
Results
I did have the Alu segment in my DNA, making me heterozygous.
Analysis
My mother or father has the Alu repeat in their DNA. Since one of them had it, there is a 415 bp fragment, and an 715 bp fragment. If both of them had had it, there would only be a fragment at 715 bp. If neither of them had it, I would only have had a fragment at 415 bp.

- Cheek cells
- Chelex
- Master Mix: nucleotides, DNA polymerase
- Primer Mix
- TBE Buffer, Agarose gel
- DNA Stain solution
